Recent testing by consulting engineeers CTL Group confirmed that Whitacre Greer 40-series pavers; shades 41 Caribbean, 42 Cinnamon, 43 Tangerine and 44 Mahogany; have a solar reflectance index of greater than 29.
Materials with a solar reflectance index of 29 or greater can assist with the attainment of LEED NC Credit 7.1 Heat Island Effect Non-Roof. According to the USGBC’s LEED Reference Guide for New Construction and Major Renovation 2.2 the intent of Credit 7.1 is to ‘reduce heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat.’
